Super Bowl Express! Deliver goods to the Super Bowl.

Post by choobacca » Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:26 am

Sid Meier's Railroads! Map
------------------------------------------------------
Super Bowl Express
by choobacca and Big Papa

In 1986, the Chicago Bears won Super Bowl XX.
Chicago fans have waited 21 years to be back in the Big Game,
and that is how long you have to supply Miami with enough
footballs, food, and beer for Super Bowl XLI.
And since people are too afraid to fly these days,
Bears and Colts fans will rely on trains to get to Miami.

WARNING:
This is a challenging map because the objectives are to deliver
lots of goods and people down to Miami before the end of the era.
Having enough money usually isn't the problem. It is a race against
the clock.
See how many objectives you can accomplish before kick-off
of Super Bowl XLI!

Installation
------------------------------------------------------
Extract and Run the installer Setup_SuperBowlExpress_1.0.zip

Mods
------------------------------------------------------
* New goods: Cowhides and Footballs
(Cattle -> Cowhides, Cowhides -> Footballs)

* Production mods similar to the ChicagoToTheRockies map.

Thanks for playing and Enjoy!

choobacca

3/3/07: Attached map setup that adds files and XML changes automatically! Thanks to atani for putting the installer together.
Enjoy...again!

3/6/07: v1.1 adds Beer Cask Car to RRT_TrainCars.xml in case you don't have it. Added Events xml file.

3/14/07: v1.2 removes the Events xml file as it was doing more harm than good.

Post your victory conditions page! :D
Hit Alt+Print Screen in November(ish) 2006 ***Don’t wait till 2007, you'll just see red X’s

Here’s my second go:

Difficulty level – Investor
Routing Difficulty - Hard
Start Location – Little Rock

It was a hard start location; difficult to getting the ball rolling. I’ll post my Florida shot later. I don’t want to give away any of my routing secrets just yet!

Do you have the NewTenders.FPK file in your "CustomAssets" directory? This map and ChicagoToTheRockies need that for all the tender car models they use. Mange's Tender Mod is available in the Mods - Trains topic.

I like the tender mods and the proportionally sized engines. I ran the map without the tender mod and the engines looked overly large, so I put it back.

I was wondering this to. So just to make sure I had it. I redownloaded the tender mod plus the work around that gets it to work with the holiday map. Even with those it still crashed.

Also, check that SuperBowlExpress.FPK is in your "CustomAssets" directory and not your "XML\_SCENARIOS_" directory where you might have unzipped the scenario.

Otherwise, I don't have any other mods installed that would make this work for me and not you.

choobacca - take screenshots of your folders from C:\Documents and Settings\me\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Railroads! thru CustomAssets, XML and _Scenarios_. That should be 4 shots total. Zip them and attach them to your post. That way WarII can download and compare them to his. This might not be a bad way to help other people in other Map problems.

I got it to work, it just looked funny with those pink squares, until I added the SuperBowlExpress.FPK file
I'm correct 97% of the time..... who cares about the other 4%....

Just wanted to comment on this scenario....I think it's AWESOME!!! THANK YOU for finally giving those of us who have played the RRT series since the first one a hallenge that is hard to win even on the easiest settings. I can see this one is going to take me a while to figure out. I've tried twice now and the best I have done is getting only half the items to Miami in time.

I do have one negative comment though so please take this with a grain of salt. The ONLY reason I'm not giving this scenario a 100% approval rating is...you left out my Bucs! lol I know they sucked these past years, but is not even putting Tampa Bay on the map a proper punishment? Haven't they suffered enough humiliation yet? So, I beg you...PLEASE add my dear Bucs if you tweak this map. I have nothing else to root for...lol

Really though...this is an outstanding effort. You should create more scenarios and then sell them to Fraxis. You have the talent and should get compensated for it. Of course, we would be your testers...lol

Marty,
Thanks for your compliments, and sorry I didn't include Tampa. I wasn't intentionally trying to hit every NFL city.

I wanted to put together a challenging map that made you think about track placement. The trick will be to get enough trains running through Miami to get all the goods down there. I have only tried once besides doing all the testing, and I fell short too. It is fun to try and try again though, right?

Thanks again for your support.

The SUPER-Bowl-"STRESS" :!:

Great Map, great work, everything you want!
I'm a fan (not of american football) (i'm from europe, brussels) but of you guys....

So, you wanna know my score?

See the screenshot...

Hé, the most important thing is ok, enough beer.
Sorry for them who didn't get a train-ticket, the stadium is just 50% full.
so in fact enough food and footballs for those overthere... on no, this means to much beer... I'll drink one...

Ok, so great map.... Thanx guys

some remarks just FYI:
- I thought i would get enough people etc, i thought wrong
- I should have and could have invested more in railroads, i'll restart over from a saved file to check this (but that's a good thing: i'll replay)
- i really had enough money (at the end more then 80 milj)
- did i noticed that bridges and tunnels are expensive... great
- To get the trains comming in and out miami without waiting, i've created alot of changing rails, a little bit without any strategie and then hoping they don't stop too much. My fault if they stop? I don't know... i don't have so much control either... wait time was not so bad anyway
- I'm using the pause-key from time to time (also because trains end up too much on the same track while double track made). Everybody knows that problem, firaxis problem...
- is it ment to play without the pause button?
(i'll replay and force me not to push that pause button, but that's maybe to stressy for me, within the game Anno 1701 (wich is great) you can't build or do anything during pause, only having a look at the scene and sources, but here you will get the time because you can run without money, the queen is helping you out from time to time...)
- btw: i still hate it to have so much money and no time to spent... (that's why i want to press the pause button also)
- maybe not the fault of the map... but hé we need to find a solution for this... surely in single play. no?

- KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
- DON'T FORGET: PEOPLE REALLY WILL ENJOY YOUR SCENARIO SO YOU MAY BE PRIDE AND HAPPY WITH YOUR WORK!
(hope to play more like this...)

I got a couple of years in and CTD'd. I didn't have time to try again or reload before work but I'll try again on the weekend. Looks like a real fun map and a challenge to boot :)

Thanks for your analysis gforce.
This is all I have in my CustomAssets too. I also run with autosaves OFF. I think this helps prevent crashes and why I don't crash as much as most people are.

Okay...now I'm gettin' frustrated! lol I can't seem to get enough fans from Indy to the game in time. Like gforce, money is not an issue. I have figured out how to keep Miami from bottlenecking and I can get the beer and food there in time. I can even get the Chicago fans there, but Indy fans and football are kicking my butt! I'm gonna try to grow Indy and Chicago into metropolises (sp) and see if that generates more population...I may be back asking for a hint. I'm gonna give it one more shot before bed.

Martys55,

As far as we know, no-one has completed all the objectives yet. Not us (the creators). Only one green check from gforce (great job Gforce! ). I’m still waiting to see someone post the victory screen with 5 green checks (not edited in paintshop either lol). Who ever does defiantly will have some BR (bragging rights) and some war stories to tell!

Please post your victory screens and keep us entertained. :D

As long as you are having fun, we’re happy!

Big Papa
